World Airport Awards feature 2014’s Best Airports

For some travelers, the experience of getting to and from their destination is almost as important as the trip itself. That’s why many vacationers may want to know which terminals and runways worldwide cater to their interests.

Let’s face it, flying into some airports is more reliable than others. Certain terminals lack the customer service, efficient security measures and hospitality needed to have a great travel experience. However, some airports have nailed it – and many have been revealed in Skytrax’s World Airports Awards.

Skytrax is independently operated and base their survey and awards off of customer responses and key performance indicators, including important travel features like ease of check-in, handling of transfers, customs and immigration as well as shopping, food and entertainment. Here are the top ten global contenders for 2014 based on their survey:

10. London Heathrow Airport
9. Vancouver International Airport
8. Zurich Airport
7. Beijing Capital International Airport
6. Tokyo International Airport Henada
5. Amsterdam Schipol Airport
4. Hong Kong International Airport
3. Munich Airport
2. Incheon International Airport
1. Singapore Changi Airport

Singapore grabbed the top title for the second year in a row at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Barcelona. There are several things that make Singapore Changi Airport in a class of its own. Landing and departing here is an experience rather than a simple commute, as the airport features orchid, cactus and butterfly gardens, koi ponds, an indoor slide and fresh, delicious food.

“Winning this prestigious award for the second year in a row, Changi Airport Singapore is showing itself to be much more than an airport,” said Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax. “Changi Airport offers a travel experience in itself and continues to develop its quality standards to be named the world’s favorite airport again. Changi Airport is a well-known leader and innovator for the airport industry and genuinely delights and surprises travelers who are lucky enough to enjoy the airport facilities. Changi Airport demonstrates how to make the airport experience an enjoyable part of the journey that is so important in today’s fast-moving world.”

Asian and European airports rounded out most of the top ten, with the exception of Vancouver International Airport, so it appears that the U.S. may have some work to do when it comes to quality customer service. However, if you are planning a trip soon to any of these cities, get ready for a world-class, award-winning experience that you may not see anywhere else.
