Don’t Let Long TSA Lines Cause You to Miss Your Flight

TSA Security Line

With longer and longer airport security lines causing travelers to miss flights, what can you do to ensure you’re not left behind?

Travelers around the country are experiencing long wait times due do Transportation Security Administration (TSA) cutbacks. The TSA reduced its workforce by 10% due to its expedited PreCheck screening program; however the number of travelers signing-up is falling well short of projections.

Stories are pouring in about travelers missing their flights, airlines providing cots to those having to stay the night at the airport and airlines even providing entertainment for those waiting in line.

Airlines have also created and the hashtag #iHateTheWait which is trending on Twitter in an attempt to pressure the TSA to take action.

Unfortunately, it looks like it’s only going to get worse before it gets better. With the summer travel season rapidly approaching, the TSA has warned that “a difficult summer may lie ahead before a significant improvement is felt.”

All of this begs the question …

Is there anything you can do to ensure you make your flight?

First, get to the airport at least three hours early. This should provide you with enough time to get through even the longest airport security lines.

Second, consider purchasing a TSA PreCheck. The application is $85, but you will be able to avoid the long lines and won’t have to worry about missing your flight.

Third, review the TSA’s rules of prohibited items, identification, and liquids rules to ensure a quick security screening.
